El Molle – Landfill gas (biogás) Capture Project
This landfill is located in Valparaíso city, Chile and generates electricity through landfill gas from the decomposition of solid waste.
Description
The El Molle landfill is located 7 km from the city of Valparaíso, which is the third most populous city in Chile. The landfill is suitable for the management of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) and is the most important landfill in the region. The landfill belongs to the city of Valparaíso and was granted under a 23-year public concession. The power generation plant project came into operation in 2015 with an installed capacity of 4.5 MW (3 x 1.5 MW).
The Project is registered under United Nations (UNFCCC) and is in the process of registering under Gold Standard.
